Trying to learn how to fly an airplane can be daunting, especially in today’s economy when lessons are so expensive. More and more people are turning to a flight simulator game to give themselves the illusion of flight, and of course they want to fly in the most accurate conditions possible, both in the terms of the aircraft they are flying, but also the types of scenery that they fly over and the airports at which they take off or land.

Flight Sim Pro allows an armchair pilot to fly any one of over a hundred aircraft, to over 20,000 airports around the world, and to fly over accurate scenery – from cityscapes and towns to lakes, rivers, roads, railroads, and land cover.

In addition to the software that one downloads, there are also two PDF manuals to download, which explain how the features of the flight simulator game work. Obviously, if the player has no previous aviation experience, reading the manuals is imperative, because flying planes – even the Wright Flyer or the Santos-Dumont 14bis, are not intuitive!

The current carriers available are the USS Nimitz, (located near San Francisco) and the USS Eisenhower.  These carriers are equipped with working catapult, arrester wires, elevators, TACAN and FLOLS.  (TACAN stands for TACtical Air Navigation, which provides the user with bearing and distance (slant-range) to the aircraft carrier. FLOLS stands for Fresnel Lens Optical Landing System, and is used to give glidepath information to pilots in the terminal phase of landing.)

Not just any aircraft can use them, of course – they have to be aircraft equipped with YASim FDM (such as the Sea hawk, Seafire and A4F.)  And what is YASim FDM? YASim is a data model for flight simulators, FDM stands for flight data model.)
